Not all Pilates studios are the same.
-
Contemporary Pilates is generally run as group sessions with variety in each session lead by an instructor (often with modified versions of traditional exercises or sometimes not even using actual Pilates exercises at all)
-
Clinical Pilates is used primarily for rehabilitation using some Pilates exercises on some of the classical apparatus, most often taught or programmed by a Physiotherapist.
The equipment used in both Contemporary & Clinical studios is commonly a modern version from non traditional manufacturers with different spring tension and angles.
-
Classical Pilates is about skill building & progression following a systematic approach developed by its creator Joseph H Pilates.
It uses traditional exercises and exercise sequences, on classical pieces of apparatus from specific manufacturers.
(The spring tension and angles within the equipment affect how the exercise feels within the body). Repetition & refinement of the exercises help build strength, balance and suppleness not just of a few targeted muscle groups, but of the whole system organically.
-
At Amity Pilates, clients are taught the method so they can move independently on their own program.
All of the apparatus is bought from specific manufacturers that specialise in classical equipment where the specific spring tension and angles are based off the original patents or models of the original equipment in Joseph Pilates studio. There are only a few manufacturers globally that manufacture to this high standard.
-
Pilates stands apart in a few key ways:
-
It uses specialised spring-based equipment (which may look unusual at first!)
-
It focuses on precision and control, use of the breath & understanding of dynamics not just repetition.
-
You’ll learn to activate & move from your deep core muscles, creating lasting postural and muscular changes.
-
You won’t just “perform” an exercise — you will learn how to find the work within it. That’s where real change happens.
-
We don’t offer casual attendance at the studio however you can pay per session if that suits you best.
The practise of Contrology takes time and repetition to learn the exercise sequences and build different layers of strength and connection in your body.

We are small business trying to offer the highest quality training space we can, with small class numbers & no casual attendance. Therefor we cannot absorb the cost of missed classes or infrequent attendance.
We work with students who are ready to commit to their training.
If you feel you need the flexibility of casual attendance, this training style may not be the right fit for you.
-
As with any dynamic skill, the more often you train the more profound the results.
-
Students are required to commit to a minimum of two training sessions per week. This consistency ensures steady progress and prevents the loss of time, money, and momentum that can occur with irregular attendance.
-
Pilates is safe to do daily, though most clients attend the studio 2–4 times per week & many do additional practise at home.
-
Each session is a full-body experience — we prioritise quality of movement over quantity, which means you’ll build lasting strength, coordination, and efficiency over time.
-
Because you are working on your own program each session can be different in length, intensity & exercise focus - it can meet you where you are at on any given day.
-
Absolutely!
